This programme at NHL Stenden trains students to become starting managers and professionals in the Media and Entertainment industry. This programme is focused on both; management and creativity. Media consumption sees huge and rapid changes and the industry is therefore in need of staff and management with up-to-date knowledge and experience. NHL Stenden hands students exactly that.

“In past years Media and Entertainment industry (M&E) has seen a dramatic turnaround. The interactive sector is growing faster than most of the more traditional sectors.”

Ernst & Young

The programme: what can you expect?

The Creative Business, Media and Management programme will teach students about communication tools and techniques and how to connect information, experiences, theory and practice. The academic year is divided into four modules of nine weeks each. Each module has a central theme which is studied and explored from a number of different angles and domains.

In the propaedeutic year, students are introduced to different types of multimedia techniques and tools and are trained to use them in practice by setting up media productions. Most of the academic team members are effectively active in the media industry so students learn directly from qualified people within the industry. Students are also taught subjects such as statistics, management, marketing, ethics, organisational sciences and business economics.

In the second year of the programme, students further explore the theories behind media analysis, human resource management, brand management and marketing communications. The third year focuses on the strategic management and students will gain practical experience by working for a real-life client as well as supervising first-year students. Students will also have the opportunity to specialise in one of the following areas, Music Management, Intrapreneurship and Digital Marketing Strategy. The course will be completed by students conducting an internship and a final year project.

Depending on your educational background you may also be eligible for the Fast Track programme in Creative Business, Media Management which takes 3 years instead of 4 years.

“After my internship with Sanoma in Belgium, I was able to work in their offices in the Netherlands. I look into how reader’s rate adverts and which magazines meet the needs of advertisers. I like what I’m doing.”

Femke Borst, analyst/media planner at Sanoma Publishers
