More Information-

Transport and logistics is one of the fastest growing sectors in the economy, while economic growth mainly manifests itself in cities. Here economic activity and transport intensity come together. These dynamics create opportunities and challenges for those with the right combination of knowledge and skills. Interactive lectures, challenging assignments and interesting debates train students to become sharp economists, and prepare them for a successful professional career as manager, consultant or policy maker in a wide range of fields such as transport and logistics, trade, banking, real estate and government.

About the Programme

The programme provides insight into the economics and management of transport, logistics and urban development. Special attention is given to the spatial dimension that plays a key role in determining business results and wider economic outcomes. Urban, Port and Transport Economics incorporates spatial dynamics it in all its courses, and adopts an integrative approach in which the linkages between cities, trade, transport and logistics are central.

Moreover, the programme aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice. The lecturers in the specialisation are involved in ongoing international economic research on urban, transport and logistics issues, and are active in consultancy and advice work in the sector. They continuously update the lecture materials with the most recent developments and insights. The courses are problem driven, and students are taught to choose and apply the most appropriate methods for the problem at hand.

The programme benefits from the location in Rotterdam, a city with a world port, which creates perfect conditions for the study of urban, port and transport economics, and has an active study association, Transito, that organises company visits, study trips as well as many social activities.

Each year, there are approximately 60 new students in the programme. This guarantees a personal approach and consistent high-quality courses, which are well evaluated. This number also quickly creates a cohesive group, which makes it easier to go through and finish the programme in time.
