More Information-

Will you be the manager of the Amstel Hotel Amsterdam or the Hilton in New York? Or event expert organising Tomorrowland? Take the first step with the Hotel and Event Management programme! Hospitality is all about creating an experience. Put yourself in your guests' shoes in order to make a stay or an event a great success and use your professional knowledge and skills in the field of management, organisation and e-commerce.

The hospitality sector

Leisure is big business; from a stay at a hotel to visiting a festival. The tourism and recreation sector is a seventy-six-billion-euro industry in The Netherlands. In 2017, 17.6 million foreign tourists visited our country, and this number will increase in the years to come. The Netherlands is also a leading nation in Europe for the number of conventions it hosts every year. The rising popularity of websites such as Booking.com has created a strong demand for professionals with knowledge of e-commerce. This is a sector with plenty of future potentials.

BA in 3 or 4 years

The Hotel and Event Management programme allows you to obtain the level of professional competence required in the Hotel Management field within three or four years. The Hotel and Event Management degree allows you to use the internationally acknowledged title of Bachelor of Arts (BA).

Best Hotel School

This programme has been accredited by the NVAO and was awarded the title of the Netherlands' best hotel school for five consecutive years by the Higher Education Guide. It also received the top score in the National Student Survey for seven times in a row and a high rating in Elsevier's "Best programmes of 2017" enquiry. 83% of our alumni are highly satisfied with the programme.

Choose your internship

At TIO, you will complete two 13-week internships and a 20-week research project at top organisations all over the world. Think Heineken in Sierra Leone, Hilton in Kuala Lumpur or ID&T in Amsterdam. This is a fantastic opportunity to get insights into your chosen sector and boost your employability.

Why students choose our Hotel and Event Management programme?

  • Small classes: You will attend theoretical lectures in groups of no more than 16 students, while practical lectures are delivered to groups of 10.
  • International: You will complete multiple components of the programme abroad. For example, in your third year, you will go on an international study trip.
  • High-quality degree: Our graduation rate is 73%, while the national average is 68%.
  • Learning by doing: 60% of the programme has a practical element. All lecturers have practical experience in the industry. You can do two internships and choose a minor with a practical focus.
  • Interesting projects: During the Hotel and Event week, you will run your own hotel together with your fellow students. You also take part in the event game, during which you and your team are tasked to come up with a concept for a business. Lastly, you will play a hotel simulation game, write a business plan and go on an international study trip.
  • Lots of guidance: On average, you will have 25 to 27 contact hours per week, except during your final year. The small group size means you will get a lot of personal attention. You also get excellent guidance during projects. Finally, you can receive extra study coaching if you want.
  • Cooperation with the industry: TIO works closely together with trade associations and networking organisations such as HotelloTOP, IDEA, the Fellowship for Event Managers, Thuswinkel.org and the Royal Dutch Hotel and Catering Association to ensure the course content always reflects the latest trends and developments.
